For the past year, I have been dreaming about redesigning my website and creating a space that feels even more like me. I wanted Downshiftology to feel cleaner, more visual, more streamlined, and more minimalist, while still being warm, useful, and easy to navigate. After spending three years building a home on the internet, you learn a surprising amount about website design, site architecture, coding, SEO, user experience, photography, video, and all the technical details that sit quietly behind every page. These are the kinds of things you wish you had understood from the very beginning, but honestly, most of us only learn them after we have been doing the work for a while.
Even though I knew a website redesign was needed, it kept getting pushed to the bottom of my list. If I am being completely honest, I think part of me was avoiding it on purpose. A full website redesign is a massive project. It involves far more than choosing pretty colors or uploading new photos. There are layouts to rethink, features to test, pages to organize, search tools to improve, and countless technical decisions to make. So, instead of diving in, I kept focusing on new recipes, filming new videos, writing posts, and keeping up with social media. In other words, I became very good at procrastinating.
Three months ago, I finally sat down and committed to the process. By that point, I had a clear vision of what I wanted the new site to look like and how I wanted it to function. I knew I wanted a better experience for anyone looking for healthy recipes, meal inspiration, lifestyle content, and helpful resources. Today, I am so excited to finally share what has been sitting in my mind for the past year: the new and improved Downshiftology.
One of the first things you will probably notice is that the homepage images are larger, brighter, and much more eye-catching. This was intentional. I removed many of the accent colors from the previous design, including the green and teal elements, so the food photography could truly stand on its own. The recipes on Downshiftology are naturally colorful and vibrant, and I wanted the ingredients, textures, and finished dishes to be the main visual focus. The cleaner design gives the photos more space to shine.
I also wanted a better way to feature videos throughout the site. I have been creating so many more videos recently, including recipe videos and lifestyle videos, and it felt important to give them a more visible home. Now, videos are not only embedded inside individual blog posts or available on my YouTube channel, but they can also be featured directly on the homepage. This means I can highlight seasonal recipes, helpful tutorials, and timely content whenever it makes sense. It is a simple change, but it makes the site feel much more dynamic and current.
Another feature many of you have been requesting is nutrition information, and I am happy to say that it is now live. You will find nutrition details at the bottom of recipe posts. Please keep in mind that this information has to be entered manually for each recipe. With more than 200 recipes already on the website, it will take a little more time to update the full archive. I expect it will take about another month to add nutrition information to all older recipes, but new recipes will include their nutritional profile going forward.
There are several other improvements as well, including easier search, better recipe filtering, and a more user-friendly layout to help you find exactly what you are looking for. Whether you are searching for gluten-free recipes, meal prep ideas, healthy dinners, breakfast inspiration, or simple everyday meals, the goal is to make the experience faster and more enjoyable. Instead of explaining every new feature in writing, I thought it would be easier to walk you through the redesign in a quick video.

Over the past three years, this community has grown in such a meaningful way. I have also been thinking a lot about how to make Downshiftology feel even more connected and interactive. That is one of the reasons I included a #Downshiftology section in this website redesign. Back in January, I mentioned my goal of building a stronger community, and this new section is one step in that direction.
Downshiftology has never been only about my recipes or my posts. It has also become a place where readers can learn from one another, share ideas, find encouragement, and feel inspired to live a little more intentionally. Food, wellness, and lifestyle choices are deeply personal, and it is powerful to see how supportive people can be when they come together around shared goals.
After my recent Instagram story, where I opened up about some hormonal challenges, I received an incredible number of direct messages and emails filled with support. I was genuinely blown away. I spent two full days doing almost nothing except reading and responding to messages. That experience reminded me how kind, compassionate, and generous this community truly is. It also made me realize that all of you could benefit from connecting with one another just as much as you benefit from the recipes and resources I share.
I am still figuring out the best way to bring that larger community idea to life, but a private Facebook group may happen in the near future. I love the idea of creating a space where I can be more accessible and where the collective knowledge, encouragement, and experience of the Downshiftology community can be freely shared. Nothing is finalized yet, but it is definitely something I am considering. Stay tuned.
I hope you enjoy Downshiftology 2.0. Like me, this site will continue to change, grow, and evolve over time. I am sure there will be more updates, new features, and fresh ideas along the way. None of this would be possible without your support, and I want you to know how grateful I am. Thank you for making my recipes. Thank you for sharing them with your family and friends. Thank you for commenting, rating, asking questions, and offering feedback. Thank you for reading my posts and being part of this space. Most of all, thank you for being the thoughtful, lovely, and supportive people that you are. Much love.
