Apple Trifle with Bourbon Whipped Cream and Caramel Drizzle

Delight in an elegant blend of textures and flavors with our Apple Trifle with Bourbon Whipped Cream and Caramel Drizzle. This layered dessert pairs caramelized apples and moist cake with a light bourbon-scented whipped cream for a memorable finish to any meal.

I can’t resist a good personality quiz, and yes—if you’re a quiz fan too, you know the guilty pleasure of finding out which movie character or country suits you best. A recent quiz told me I belong in New Zealand, which only deepened my curiosity about the country and its produce.

I’ve developed a fondness for Envy apples: bright, crisp, and sweet, they make an ideal choice for fruit plates, salads, or desserts. In this trifle they get a quick sauté in butter until lightly caramelized, which highlights their natural sweetness and keeps their texture pleasantly firm.

The trifle is built on simple components: tender white cake cut into cubes, buttery caramelized apples, a smooth caramel sauce, and a fluffy bourbon whipped cream. Layered in jars or a trifle dish, the contrast between the slightly warm apples and the cool whipped cream creates a perfect bite every time.

We’re also celebrating apples with a collaborative giveaway hosted with fellow food bloggers. One winner will receive a case of Envy apples and a $150 gift card; entries will also count toward a grand prize drawing. Apple Trifle with Bourbon Whipped Cream & Caramel Drizzle

Yield: Serves 4

Prep Time: 30 minutes

Cook Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

for the apple trifle:
1 homemade or store-bought white cake, cut into 1-inch cubes
3 large Envy apples, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons unsalted butter

for the bourbon whipped cream:
2 cups heavy whipping cream
1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons bourbon

for the caramel drizzle:
1 bag caramels, wrappers removed
1/3 cup unsweetened condensed milk

Directions:

for the apple trifle:
Heat a medium skillet over medium heat and melt the butter. Add the apple slices and sauté until they begin to brown and caramelize, about a few minutes; remove from heat and let cool slightly.

To assemble, place four to five apple slices in the bottom of a jar or trifle dish. Add three cake cubes on top of the apples, then drizzle with a spoonful of caramel. Pipe or spoon a layer of bourbon whipped cream over the caramel. Repeat the layers once more and finish with a final dollop of whipped cream. Garnish with a few apple slices and an extra drizzle of caramel.

for the bourbon whipped cream:
In a mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, combine the heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, and bourbon. Whisk on medium speed until soft peaks form and the mixture is light and fluffy. Transfer to a piping bag or refrigerate until ready to use.

for the caramel drizzle:
In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the caramels with the unsweetened condensed milk, stirring constantly until smooth and combined, about 3–5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before drizzling over the trifle.
